weird craving

sorry this picture isn't very good. i taught the 8am this morning and was hungry for something different when i got home. i wanted something salty and sweet. usually those cravings are separate for me. anyways- toasted a raisen bread slice of ezekiel bread and made some homemade blackberry jelly. basically i heated up some blackberries over the stove with a little bit of water and added a touch of agave nectar. then put a scrambled egg white on the top- so yummy! it was so good i wondered why i had not thought of it before?!

saturday night alright! (insert sir elton voice here)

morning wake up call-pre yoga class
fruit bowl and 1/2 cup lowfat oragnic cottage cheese
mid blog noon snack - 3/4 cup puffins and my new favorite kombucha flavor- botanic no 9
saturday night -alright alright alright- ewww -yeah! can't get that song out of my head!

so the really cool thing about puffins cereal- besides the fact it's crunchy, tasty, organic AND good for you....it also helps the puffins. they are the orange-footed swimming birds. project puffin celebrated it's 30th anniversary in august 04. and barbara's cereal is a proud sponser of the audubon'e project puffin.

more dining adventures at whole foods

buddha head- pretty cool looking- it's crazy that that is actually edible!
it's named after it's appearance- UGLY!
fountain by the outside dining area
friday night taylor and i met at the new whole foods after his workout at the gym and my 5:30 yoga class. my class was good-even managed to squeeze in some jokes---students laughed so that's a good thing. sometimes you are up on the podium and say something that you think is quite relative and no one gets it and you end up feeling like a complete jack....so when people respond to your humor it is always a good thing:)

anyways- back to whole foods. taylor and i had so much fun walking around - checking out the produce. after we ate we went outside and sat by the fountain. it was so nice and relaxing to just chill- and the weather was beautiful!

sorry if my pics are lower quality- took them on my iphone

hurray for whole foods!

so the new whole foods is here! (abrams and gaston-where minyards use to be) i was so excited to visit wf one day after the opening. had to practically fight for a parking spot (brought me back to my  la driving days) but it was all good. i loaded up my plate with a salad and many veggies- along with some tofu for protein. so good. in fact, i enjoyed my whole foods dining experience so much i am bringing the carol there for lunch tomorrow :) i could really spend a hour walking down the aisles checking out all the healthy goods! and their organic beauty products! to die for- seriously-luckily my pocket book won't allow me to get into any trouble...but i could do a lot of damage. i won't..but i could:)

brunch

ahi tuna salad-delish!
taylors' sinful sunny side up
my hubby
after church taylor and i went to r+d cafe for lunch, brunch or if you like a combo of both-blunch. i ordered the ahi tuna salad, comes with pototoes and i chose more veggies instead. also came with three big chunks of goat cheese but gave 2 to taylor as well as the olives and a hunk of the avacado. taylor ordered the sunny side up- a cornmeal waffle with thinly sliced ham, cheese and an egg on top- calorific! of course i had to taste one small bite but i did manage to stick with my healthy fair for the rest of the meal.

post yoga breakfast

went to the 8 am class this morning. at 7 when i woke up i had black tea and an apple. but when i got back around 10 i made my raw cereal(officially not 100% percent raw because of the toasted almonds). the cereal consists of organic chocolate unsweetened almond milk, 1 comice pear cut in little cubes, toasted almonds about 1/4 cup, and raw cocoa. yes delicious and nutritious. of course i burned the toasted almonds a bit. i was doing to much at once. besides that i think the pic looks blog worthy- right? gotta run off to church!

operation hb

i am starting this new blog with a mission. OPERATION HB! no it isn't operation hilary baker(although i do love ya sista!), or operation hot buns- although that could be a result of my original mission- it is an operation to find a healthy balance. if anyone out there struggles with eating, dieting, not eating, and not dieting...blah blah blah - all of it, then i welcome you with open arms. i am on a mission to find a balance in eating healthfully, mindfully and socially. it seems like i get into these cycles of really being extremely strict with my eating- not allowing myself any room for wiggle and then i do the extreme opposite and go into vacation mode. on one hand i see calories as the enemy and then on the other hand i forget they exist. i have always been a pretty healthy eater (fruit, fish and veggies-no red meat- staying away from refined sugar and white flour carbs) but at the same time i struggle with that balance...i think we all do.

my future posts will include pics of what i do choose to eat along this journey to finding a balance and hopefully some funny anecdotes to go with. i would appreciate any comments, suggestions and funny stories any of you have to share. so here's to the finding a healthy balance and hopefully having some fun along the way.
